I. Product Description

CRM197 is a non-toxic diphtheria toxin mutant with a single amino acid substitution of glycine to glutamic acid at position 52, which alters the enzyme active site of diphtheria toxin, thereby eliminating its cytotoxic effects while retaining the antigenic and immunogenic properties of the native diphtheria toxin. CRM197 is a well-characterized protein that serves as a carrier for polysaccharides and haptens to render them immunogenic. It is used as a carrier protein in several licensed vaccines, including conjugate vaccines against meningococcal, Haemophilus influenzae type b, and pneumococcal infections.
